Mansion Global Former NBA Star Brandon Knight Scores a New Miami Pad

Former NBA point guard Brandon Knight, a Miami native whose NBA career took him to Dallas, Detroit, Milwaukee, Phoenix, Houston and New York, is settling down in his home town.

The 34-year-old basketball player has purchased a half-floor residence at Villa Miami, the first branded residential project from New York restaurant conglomerate Major Food Group, whose hip eateries include Carbone, ZZ’s Club and Sadelle’s. Set in Edgewater, the north-of-downtown neighborhood on Biscayne Bay, the project includes 70 half- and full-floor apartments.

“I was drawn to the lifestyle at Villa, not just the architecture and location, but the service and hospitality behind it,” Knight said in a news release. Knight’s not the only hoopster to buy in the building; Detroit Pistons forward Duncan Robinson, a former Miami Heat player, has also purchased a half-floor pad, said Sari Libbin Shapiro, the Villa Miami sales executive who represented developers Terra and One Thousand Group in the transactions. 

Knight last played in the NBA for the Dallas Mavericks in the 2021-22 season, and currently plays for Capitanes de Arecibo, a pro team in Puerto Rico. 

Knight was drawn to the hospitality element of the building, Shapiro said. “It’s also about a great lifestyle for his family, with a kids’ room and all the best of Miami that’s so close to the building.” 

Shapiro would not disclose what Knight paid for the condo, but she said apartments in the building start at $6 million. As the home has not closed yet, the exact sale price could not be determined. 

Knight’s 3,302-square-foot unit includes three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a powder room, and two terraces. 

Major Food Group’s DNA will infuse the 56-story project, expected to begin occupancy in late 2027. Kitchens are designed by celebrity chef Mario Carbone, a Major Food Group partner and namesake of the Carbone restaurant chain worldwide. Standard equipment includes CornuFé dual-fuel ranges with gas cooktops and electric convection ovens, professional-grade pasta cookers and wall-mounted pot fillers, and integrated Wolf and Sub-Zero ovens and refrigerators. 

The building will include a three-story, residents-only club, designed by New York firm Charles & Co., with private dining rooms, lounges, a screening room, hair salon, rooftop pool deck and yacht club. The condo’s spa and wellness amenities, “inspired by the thermal retreats of Ischia, Italy,” according to a news release, include marble plunge pools, herbal steam rooms, private treatment suites, yoga and boxing studios, and a fitness center. Major Food Group will also run a yet-unnamed waterfront restaurant set to open with the building. 

Shapiro said Knight was shown the unit using the sales gallery’s virtual reality technology.

While Miami home and condo sales have slumped this year, Shapiro said she’s confident of Villa Miami’s prospects.

“At the top end of the market, this buyer pool will pay a premium for something of quality,” she said. “With so much thrown at them, they can decipher what’s world class, and they’re not afraid to pay for it. In Villa Miami, you have top developers, a top hospitality brand and an exclusivity factor—you’re in a boutique building with zero or one neighbor per floor.”
